Challenge 

Infrared Thermography (IR) is a method to detect infrared energy emitted from an object, convert it to temperature, and display an image of the temperature distribution. An IR camera is a hand held device that forms an image using infrared radiation, similar to a common camera that forms an image using visible light. Instead of the 450 – 750 nanometer wavelength range of a visible light camera, infrared cameras operate in wavelengths ranging from 750 nanometers to as long as 14,000 nanometers (14 μm).

IR cameras are widely used across applications such as field testing and maintenance of electrical, mechanical and HVAC sites. A motorized solution is used to automatically adjust the focus of the lens to sharpen the image. Motion control solutions can be similarly used to adjust detector movement for better accuracy, speed and high degree of precision. Portescap's brush DC and can stack stepper motors and actuators deliver fine resolution in a lightweight package for enhanced accuracy and speed of operation of IR cameras.
