The MotionCompass allows you to input your application parameters and receive recommendations for Brush and Brushless DC motors. The Torque and Speed are required to begin receiving recommendations. In the Recommendations table, you can sort the columns of Speed, Efficiency, Power and Current.
Operating Point
Torque: The first basic input based on application motion need.
Speed: The second basic input based on application motion need.
Voltage: Changing the voltage updates the performance of all
motors at the specified voltage. With a specific operating
voltage, users can view the actual motor performance for
the application.
Maximum Current: Users can limit motor recommendations based on the
amount of current available from the driver.
Maximum Diameter: Users can set the maximum diameter of the motor for the application.
If users do not receive any motor(s) recommendation
after making this selection, it is likely that the working
point (speed and torque) is not achievable by motors at or below this diameter.
Gearbox Option: Select the bearing configuration of the gearbox to receive recommendations for motor/gearbox combinations. This filters the list of recommendations
to only motor/gearbox combinations.
BLDC Options: Users can select the following options:
Hall Sensor - BLDC motors with Hall Sensors commutation
Sensorless - BLDC motors with Sensorless commutation
Integrated Electronics - BLDC motors with integrated electronics (2 wire operation)
Please click Show Results after any changes in the Operating Point section to see updated Recommendations.
Application Performance
The parameters of Speed, Efficiency, Power and Current can be adjusted to receive recommendations based on the relative importance of these for your application. You can adjust the percentage for each and click Apply to receive the updated recommendations. Clicking Balance will set each parameter to 25%. The total percentage must always equal 100% to receive recommendations.
