Security Tracking System

Merchandise theft during transit is a serious issue in many countries. Using the latest tracking technology, transportation companies can not only track packages during shipment but also alert shippers to any merchandise tampering. Using a motorized locking system, where a motor is coupled to a security cable attached to the merchandise, any unauthorized product access is detected by the motor and immediately reported to the external tracking system.

A European security systems’ manufacturer engaged Portescap’s Quick Prototype Team in this application. In less than two weeks, Portescap had multiple samples ready for evaluation which allowed the customer time to consider the Portescap solution before a commitment to the competitor’s motor solution was due. During the evaluation period, it was determined that Portescap’s Athlonix™ 16DCT brush DC motor solution was a better value alternative to the existing competitor motor. Portescap’s ability to quickly determine the best motor choice and then to customize the product to meet the customer’s requirements were key to securing the application.
