One design does not fit all. Not when your application has specific performance requirements for high speed, high torque, or the need to balance both. And not when all that performance needs to fit in a small space or deliver ultra-performance at an optimized cost. That’s why Portescap created the Ultra EC platform of miniature brushless motors.

The core of the  Ultra EC™ platform is the innovative and proprietary U coil design which powers the performance of all 3 Ultra EC product lines.  The Ultra EC U coil uses straight copper turns to maximize the effectiveness of the magnetic field, with coil heads perfectly integrated into the compact motor design. With minimal joule and iron losses, maximum power is available to achieve the specific performance characteristics you're looking for in the frame size you need. And of course, minimal losses also mean greater efficiency and cooler operation.

The technical breakthrough of the Ultra EC U coil is directly based on its physical benefit: compared to an original skewed coil, the straight turns allow more torque generation per each loop and avoid the wasted radial consequence of the classic coil design. Additionally, the Ultra EC U coil offers more versatility and flexibility in length extension due to its design. Similar lengths in a skewed coil require a complete redesign of the coil including a feasibility assessment

The benefits of Ultra EC motors are readily apparent and can be observed in 2 ways:

  • For the same mechanical power delivered, the Ultra EC motor will dissipate less; meaning that the motor will operate cooler for a similar workload.
  • And secondly, for the same package, the mechanical output power will be significantly increased (up to 100%); meaning that the motor will produce more for the same losses. Another benefit is for the same package size and mechanical output, the motor requires less energy which increases the battery life.
