Celebrating Women in Engineering

June 30, 2022
women in engineering

Last week we celebrated the ninth annual International Women in Engineering Day (IWED), a day that honors and recognizes the incredible women engineers across the globe. Officially launched in the UK in 2014, IWED became an internationally observed holiday in 2017 and continues to be celebrated yearly on June 23rd. This day is key in not only honoring women in engineering, but given that only 16.5% of engineers are women, is also essential in inspiring girls and women to join the engineering field.

We not only recognize the importance of diversity in the workplace, but are actively working to advance DEI (Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity) initiatives across Portescap and the larger Altra Industrial Motion organization. A critical aspect of these initiatives is increasing the gender diversity and female representation in Portescap’s engineering roles, including in our Research and Development, Application Engineering, and Manufacturing departments. Below we highlight two of our own women engineers, Sayali Shinde and Sana Khokhar, who are at the very core of what we do, working to drive miniature motor developments and innovations forward:

As we move forward from June 23rd, we’re dedicated to remembering that International Women in Engineering Day isn't merely a day. Instead, it's a reminder that each day is an opportunity to drive towards greater inclusion and opportunities for women engineers— thereby accelerating equality for all. Here's to the ingenious, passionate, and driven female engineers of Portescap and across the globe!
