Service robots assist human beings by performing a job that is dirty, dull, distant, dangerous or repetitive. They typically are autonomous and/or operated by a built-in control system, with manual override options. Typical usages include surveillance, inspection of industrial pipelines & sewers, power grid patrol, and autonomous guided vehicles in warehousing.

Service robots utilize miniature brush DC and brushless DC motors along with gearboxes to achieve high torque and encoders for positional feedback. Mini motors are able to fulfil the requirements of service robots for high torque, low moment of inertia, long battery life and the ability to work under load.
